Stowey Community Space
A Community Group proposing to keep a community owned
Post Office, Shop and Cafe in the historic heart of the village
Who are we?
We are a growing group of local residents with a shared idea to pursue this project.
A few of us started discussing our community facilities over a glass of wine one evening. We were saying how wonderful it would be if we could maybe 'win the lottery' and buy the Post Office building, enabling it to be used as a community space and keeping the Post Office alive, but also reawakening the cafe and enabling a shop that could sell local produce, cards, gifts, arts and crafts.

The idea moved forwards once we discovered that there is actually help and support out there to do such a thing. Discovering the Plunkett Foundation was the start of thinking this might actually be possible.

Plunkett are a non-profit organisation who have a wealth of experience and resources for such a project. We have already made contact with them and their tools will be invaluable in helping to form the strategy moving forward.

We have an initially small but growing group of interested people, and will start out operating under the name of Stowey Community Space. The organisation will possibly need to be set up as some sort of community enterprise, and will be run by members of the community. Any developments in the set up and structure will be conveyed here on this website.

The key to success is people. We cannot do it alone. Without the support of the community and an army of volunteers this just won't happen.
If you want this to go ahead, please help - any amount of time and skills will be gratefully received and put to good use.
